Art and culture
are the keys to define a civilization or a society to an outsider. No community
can flourish without the practice of art and crafts. And so, it is equally
important that the artist are given due respect, economically and socially,
thereby encouraging them to create in a better health of our society.
To think with a
global perspective, the art of life means to respond to our individual nature
to help shape our identity. The arts have the potential to become the driving
force to heal division and create unity. We are at the outset of a new era in
the history of civilization. Art is a vehicle, a tool for social change. Art
has an even more vital role and the idea of community is even more important.
A centre for
creative art is being professionally set up by “Ongkar”, for the first time in
Assam. It is an endeavour not only to encourage the budding artists and
artisans, but also provide a platform for the hidden talents and a melting
point for the already known and established artists and artisans.
